Blossom Room Blog....
This week we say goodbye to Michelle as she has taken on a new role within the Children’s Centre. We will still see her around the centre.
The children have spent a lots of time outdoors, developing their physical skills and confidence on the climbing equipment. A variety of food has been made following the mud kitchen recipes such leaf and mud soup.
We hope you enjoy Earth Day and can join in with the activities on offer.
This week we have consolidated the BSL signs we learnt last half term they are ‘Hello, Help, Goodbye, Yes, No, Friend, Finished, Help me, and Eat’.
The signs we will be learning next week are ‘Happy ‘ and ‘Sad’. Thank you for your support.
We have had a great week in Cherry Blossom Room. We have brought our very popular ‘That’s not my.....’ sensory books to life with a variety of tiles with different textures. Our under 2’s have used their sense of touch to fulfil their curiosity using both their hands and their feet.
We have joined in with lots of Eco activities this week, looking after our sunflower seeds we have planted for the Martenscroft Market and they have began to sprout already. Some of our under 2’s have joined in with gardening activities in the reception garden planting bulbs and tidying up.
The children have been amazed to see the beans that they planted growing, some children are watching them daily to see the difference. This leads to natural conversations around Planting, Growing and Nurturing as well as Jack and the Beanstalk and Jasper’s Beanstalk. Some of the children helped to plant bulbs in our Reception area outdoors this will give a good talking opportunity for yourselves as you drop off and collect your child. Some of the children were encouraged to do observational paintings as they showed an interest in one of our many house plants. The beans that the children planted will be available to purchase for a small donation at our Martenscroft Market on Friday the 1st April 2022. Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Great British Spring Clean Up it was a great success, we collected lots of litter from the front of Nursery and the Crèche.
Spring has finally arrived in Blossom Room and now the warmer weather is here we have planted beans just like Jasper did in our story Jasper’s Beanstalk. Some of the children helped to clear the planting beds in Aquarius and we have planted potatoes, lettuce and butter beans. Now that the weather is lighter and brighter you can collect your child from outside as that is where we will be after tea time as long as the weather is fine.
The BSL signs we will be learning next week are ‘help me’ and ‘eat’. We are starting to send home our Take Home doll for each group, your child will get a turn to bring home the doll and you can tell us about the adventures they have had together. This helps our children to make a link between home and Nursery and develops their communication skills, thanks for support.
We have had so much fun outside this week in the lovely warm weather. We have been looking at our plants that we have planted, smelling their colourful petals and watering them to let them grow even bigger. We have reused some ice cream pots and planted sunflower seeds in them. Then we made our own flower pictures using sponges, our hands and even our feet! The weather was so nice that we decided to have our fruit snack outside, we listened to the story ‘Bears picnic’ whilst we had our fruit.
We have all enjoyed the warmer weather this week and the children have explored the many learning opportunities outdoors enthusiastically. Some children have developed their skills in learning how to ride a tricycle using the pedals. On Friday we placed the water tray outside and the children had lots of fun exploring The Five Little Ducks and learning the words and actions for the song as they splashed the ducks in the water.
You can read about Freddie’s and Anna’s adventures on the display board next to the outdoor door. The children are becoming very excited for their turn to take home either Freddie or Anna.
The BSL signs we will be learning next week are ‘Friend’ and ‘Finished’.
The children have really enjoyed learning our BSL signs this week, ‘Hello’ and ‘Goodbye’. The signs for next week are ‘Yes’ and ‘No’. The self registration is going very well and some of the children are becoming independent in finding their own label and placing it in the box. Some of the children have had lots of fun mixing paints this week, they learnt how to pump the bottles and soon discovered the paint on their paper. This helped to develop the children’s language as they talked about the colours and noticed the changes that were happening. We have been learning our rhyme of the week, ‘Five Little Peas’ at the dough table using green dough, making peas and counting them onto the mats. We are developing an area undercover for planting and growing linking to our theme this half term Living and Growing.
The sun has been shining and we have been so happy about being able to spend more time outside this week. We have made a start on gardening in our undercover area. We looked at the sunflower seed packet and talked about the big flowers we are going to grow. The children poked the seeds into the soil and then helped to water the seeds and our other flowers. Then we swept the leaves together.
Our student set up a printing activity with fresh fruit and the children explored the paint and the fresh fruit and some copied the adults actions of printing onto the large paper, others wanted to eat the fruit!
The children have been very enthusiastic this week as we introduced our Self Registration, we are asking all Parents/Carers to encourage their child to find their label on their coat peg and post it in the box. This will help the children to recognise their picture and eventually their own name.
We will be doing 2 signs a week from BSL they will be placed on the inside of the entrance door to Blossom Room and we can all learn them together. The first 2 signs we will be learning are ‘Hello’ and ‘Help’.

This week in Cherry Blossom has been very exciting for different reasons. We have welcomed new friends over the last few weeks and they are settling in with our room routines really well. We received a donation of new ICT toys and our under 2’s have shown lots of curiosity, excitement and understanding around these new resources. We have also started to have short periods of time outside in the large outdoor garden at quiet times. Our under 2’s have really enjoyed exploring large areas and finding new challenges.
The children have had lots of fun exploring our outdoor environment this week. Some of the children were very busy cooking in the mud kitchen, they foraged for leaves and a variety of other materials and then stirred them all together. Some of the children have challenged themselves on the climbing equipment and have begun to ride and manoeuvre the wheeled toys round the outdoor area managing to negotiate obstacles in their path. Well done.
The ground can be muddy at times so could you please remember to provide a pair of welly boots for your child. Thank you .
We have all had a wonderful week celebrating Chinese New Year, some of the children have made fans and tiger masks. Lots of children helped to decorate the home area. On Tuesday parents and carers joined us in the hall for activities, we listened to Chinese music and did a Dragon Dance around the darkened corridors, with squeals of delight from both children and adults. On Friday we finished off our celebrations as the children were encouraged to chop a variety of vegetables and try some prawn crackers and noodles.

In the book area we’ve added props for the children to act out the story, such as a sieve (helmet) and wellies (space boots). We have also been learning a new song which the children love called Zoom zoom zoom we’re going to the moon and we have started a new yoga session called ‘A trip to the moon’.

After sharing the story ‘Shark in dark’ we made our own telescopes using cardboard tubes and paint. We then went on an adventure around the centre to see what we could see. The children were very excited to use their telescopes. They all looked around and shouted out when then spotted different things such as a tiger, fish, butterflies and so much more. When we got back to Blossom room, the children were excited to tell their friends and the adults about what they had seen.
