In Willow Room we provide a unique opportunity for children to develop as enthusiastic and independent learners. We offer an environment that supports exploration and nurtures curiosity in a safe and secure setting. Children aged between 3-5 years are encouraged to develop their play having free access to the inside and outside areas throughout the day.
Every child is unique and we nurture their learning aimed at their individual needs. It is important that every child is able to communicate their thoughts and ideas and to be able to express their needs and wants to their peers and staff.
Children have the opportunity to become creative curious thinkers marching to their own learning beat. Children are able to take risks in their learning, challenging themselves and allowing time to develop their critical thinking skills within a safe nurturing environment.
Willow room is a large space offering opportunities for children to explore and investigate independently throughout the inside and outside environment. An experienced staff team supports and extends children’s learning opportunities through a stimulating and exciting environment. Staff observe and encourage children to follow their own interests allowing time for the children to develop their ideas and the direction of their play.
We follow the Early Year’s Foundation Stage. A key part of the curriculum are the ‘characteristics of effective learning’. These are playing and exploring, active learners and creating and thinking critically.
Throughout the day children will be encouraged to be independent in their self-care. This is supported by staff until children become independent and/ or willing to have a go on their own. We provide drinks and snacks that the children are encouraged to access independently.
We go out in all weathers exploring the change that different weather conditions provide. We have wet play clothes that are readily available. The children have free and easy access to the outside environment and are encouraged to move to follow their interests in and out of the room.
We regularly liaise with parents/carers sharing children’s learning in school and at home. Parents have access to their child’s online learning diary. This is where we share children’s learning, staff observations and next steps. We also encourage parents to use it as a vehicle to share their children’s home learning and comment and share their thoughts on their child’s learning.
Throughout the children’s time in nursery their learning will be regularly monitored by staff and progress shared with parents.
Children will access resources and the learning environment independently. They will be confident in exploring and developing their own interests. They will challenge themselves and communicate using a variety of communication techniques. Children will feel secure, safe and comfortable in their own skin. They will be willing to have a go even when challenges arise. They will be able to use their developing critical thinking skills to solve problems. They will be engaged and focused in their learning knowing that they are supported and valued.
